Championship leader Lucas Auer was fastest in second free practice for the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters at the Laustizring, putting in his best effort of a 1:16.829 in the dying seconds of the 30-minute session, ahead of Stuttgart stablemate Robert Wickens.
Behind the Mercedes 1-2, Audi Sport Team Rosberg’s Jamie Green was still in touch with Auer, whilst Gary Paffett and Maro Engel made it four C63s in the top five.
FP1 pace setter Mike Rockenfeller was sixth fastest, leading a trio of Audis, as René Rast and Mattias Ekström helped to complete the top eight.
Tom Blomqvist was again the best of the BMWs, but was ninth fastest, as defending champion Marco Wittmann was just 0.002 seconds behind the Anglo-Swede at the end of the 30-minute session.
As temperatures were colder in comparison with the first free practice session of the weekend, Paul Di Resta and Nico Müller found themselves in the lower half of the timesheets, placing 11th and 12th respectively.
Maxime Martin led the remaining Munich quarter in 13th place, 0.891 seconds off Auer’s pace, followed by Augusto Farfus, Timo Glock and 2012 champion Bruno Spengler.
Loïc Duval was 17th fastest, ahead of last year’s runner-up, Edoardo Mortara, with the field separated by 1.519 seconds.
Qualifying for the first race of the weekend starts at 1015 local time, lasting for 20 minutes.
