Ash Sutton secures first Subaru win of the season in race two

Ashley Sutton claimed his first victory for Team BMR’s works Subaru outfit after breaking clear and maintaining an advantage over Rob Collard in the second British Touring Car Championship race at Oulton Park.

Sutton, starting on the second row, took second from the Team Dynamics Honda Civic Type-R of Matt Neal at Old Hall on the opening lap, with Collard following him through the right-hander.

He then got the better of pole-sitter Jordan on the inside of Hislops on the second lap after sustained pressure on the BMW driver, and with Collard delayed in passing his Pirtek-backed team-mate, Sutton was able to break clear and maintain his advantage to the chequered flag.

Matt Neal took a muted third ahead of Gordon Shedden, who followed his stablemate through past Jordan with a bold move to the outside of Cascades.

The result sees the defending champion reclaim the championship lead after a torrid day for Speedworks’ Tom Ingram continued with contact alongside Will Burns and James Cole at Island Hairpin, before a fire curtailed his charge.

Josh Cook found himself unable to pass Jordan and was forced to settle for another strong showing in sixth for Maximum Motorsport, with a trip across the grass at the chicane on lap five ensuring Mat Jackson would finish just seventh.

Rob Austin and the Team HARD pairing of Jake Hill and Michael Epps rounded out the top ten ahead of a gradually resurgent Jason Plato.

Adam Morgan’s bad luck continued at the Cheshire circuit with a fire on the formation lap, and he remains a doubt for the final, reverse-grid race of the weekend.

Josh Price took his first points for Subaru in 15th alongside the Jack Sears Trophy honours, though he was given a helping hand as Aiden Moffat pitched Senna Proctor’s Vauxhall Astra sideways at the top of Deer Leap on the run to the chequered flag.

Proctor survived after engaging a forward gear mid-spin, though he dropped out of the points in the process.

The reverse grid draw sees Josh Cook take reverse grid pole, with the Ford Focus ST of Mat Jackson alongside.

Race three takes place at 17:02 BST.
