Rob Huff remains on top at end of Monza test day

Münnich Motorsport’s rob Huff remained on top of the times after the afternoon test session at Monza, with a time two tenths slower than his best of the day.

Huff continued to be the driver to beat in his new Citroën C-Elysée, ending the day with an overall best time of 1 minute 52.888 seconds, which was set in the morning session.

With the TC1 cars having not raced around Monza before, it is not possible to draw direct comparisons, but the lap was just over three and a half seconds than the pole position time set in 2013 in the previous specification cars.

Sébastien Loeb Racing’s Mehdi Bennani continued to be the driver closest to Huff’s pace, with an afternoon effort that was just 0.297 seconds slower, the Moroccan having gone three tenths faster than his own best in the morning.

An impressive third quickest was Yann Ehrlacher in his LADA Vesta, with the young Frenchman quickly getting to grips with his new car to go 0.325 seconds shy of Huff’s afternoon pace.

Tom Chilton was fourth fastest in the second of Loeb Racing’s Citroëns, and the Brit was the only other driver to be within a second of the pace.

Ehrlacher’s uncle, Yvan Muller, continued in the afternoon session in his role as Polestar’s development driver, with the Frenchman 1.307 seconds off the pace as the fastest Volvo driver.

New Loeb Racing driver John Filippi was sixth, ahead of the next two Volvos of Néstor Girolami in seventh and Thed Björk in eighth.

Honda again failed to show their hand in testing, as ninth-placed Ryo Michigami was the leading driver for the Japanese marque, over two seconds off the pace.

Alberto Cerqui continued to substitute for Tom Coronel in the ROAL Motorsport Chevrolet and ended up in tenth poistion.

The WTCC season begins in Marrakech on the 1 and 2 April 2017.
