Mat Jackson drawing confidence from testing mileage ahead of season opener

Mat Jackson is confident Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Duo can get their British Touring Car Championship campaign off to a strong start at Brands Hatch this weekend following a promising winter period of development.

Jackson, who claimed five race victories en route to third in the standings last season, has partaken in an intensive testing programme with Motorbase including laps in Portugal to simulate warmer track and ambient conditions as well as more familiar domestic circuits.

He will be partnered for the first-time by Martin Depper and British GT convert Luke Davenport in the Ford Focus ST.

“We’ve got some great mileage behind us from testing and we’ve learnt a lot about the new Dunlop tyres so it will be interesting to see how it all plays out on the track this weekend,” said Jackson.

“We go into the weekend in a good place, we know we have a strong car in the Focus and the changes we’ve made over the winter should help to keep us on the edge but this year is going to be closer than ever.”

The 2008 runner-up also paid tribute to the strength in depth of this seasons BTCC field, which features an incredible sixteen former race winners among its ranks.
“This is the by far the strongest grid we’ve seen in a long time and the wins and podiums are going to be even harder to come by. Brands has been kind to us in the past and a strong start in qualifying is going to be pivotal in getting our campaign off on the best footing.”
