Automobile Club de Monaco denies TCR race in 2017

The Automobile Club de Monaco has issued a statement denying that the TCR International Series will race on the Circuit de Monaco in 2017, after the former released a calendar with the Grand Prix support race included.

On Monday WSC Ltd, promoter of the TCR International Series, released a provisional calendar which included the fourth event of the season on the famous Monte Carlo street circuit, supporting the FIA Formula One World Championship.

The event is planned to be the second of three F1-supporting events held in 2017, with the championship having previously supported three F1 events in each of its first two years.

However the Automobile Club de Monaco have now published a statement which denies that a contract has been signed.

The statement published on the ASN website reads:

“On 28th November 2016, TCR International Series have published a press release to unveil their calendar of the 2017 season.

“In this document, it is written that the fourth round of this championship will be held, on 28th May 2017, during the Monaco Grand Prix. The Automobile Club de Monaco absolutely contradicts this untruth [sic] information. No contact has ever been made between TCR International Series and the Automobile Club de Monaco.

“For this reason, at the FIA World Motor Sport Council held in Vienna (Austria) on 30th November 2016, the Automobile Club de Monaco clarified, during the vote of the International Series’ calendars, to not register the TCR International Series on the Circuit de Monaco.”
