Dušan Borković ‘very happy’ with points in both Malaysian races

B3 Racing’s Dušan Borković was ‘very happy’ with finishing in the points in both races of the TCR International Series race in Malaysia, after making up seven places during the eventful second race.

The Serbian racer had earlier finished in sixth in the first race on Friday, and by scoring solid points in both races he has closed the gap to Gianni Morbidelli, who is currently sixth overall in the championship standings, to just seven points heading to the season finale in Macau.

Furthermore, Borković also has a chance to take fifth overall in the standings after his team-mate Mat’o Homola was given a penalty after race two to give him no points in Sepang.

“I didn’t drive like I usually do, I wanted to survive with a set up that wasn’t so good,” explained Borković of race one. “New points and advancing in the overall standings made the qualifying result a little better.

“It was definitely the worst qualifying session this season for me. We had only one free practice and the team and I had problems finding the right setup. It was bad in qualifying but a little better for the first race.”

After just missing out on a podium in race two, Borković believes he showed his potential by making up many positions in the race and generally staying out of trouble – including gaining ground when team-mate Homola made contact with Pepe Oriola near the end of the race.

There was one controversial incident halfway through the race when Borković forced team-mate Attila Tassi wide, costing the Hungarian ground that saw him finish in ninth overall.

“I am really happy,” concluded Borković. “It was one of the best races and I showed what I am capable of. I started from 11th position and finished 4th, so I am satisfied.

“I feel bad because of the incident with my teammate Attila Tassi about which I found out after the race. I didn’t see him on the outside line running off the track, I had the inside line and I was just driving my race safe and clean.

“I am really satisfied as I am finally heading home to prepare for the season finale for a very exciting event in Macau.”
