WestCoast Racing’s Rob Huff took a welcome eighth win on the streets of Macau, as the British touring car ace streaked away to take a dominant victory in the penultimate race of the inaugural TCR International Series.
Despite pressure at the start from Team Craft-Bamboo Lukoil’s Jordi Gené and Target Competition’s Stefano Comini, Huff would secure his début TCR win, finishing ahead of the pair after fending them off at Lisboa.
Just after the start, the red flag was brought out, as Target Competition’s Francisco Mora hit the wall at Mandarin Bend. Craft-Bamboo’s Frank Yu tried to brake in avoidance, but was hit from behind by Prince Racing’s Kenneth Lau. Mora was later sent the medical centre for checks, after the hefty impact.
After the restart three laps later, Huff was able to use his extensive knowledge of the 6.2km street track to open up a gap that would remain relatively unchallenged.
However, the title battle was still in full effect for the remainder of the race, as Comini, Gene and Pepe Oriola were still trying to gain the upper hand in the drivers’ standings. Gene would be out of contention at the end of the race, whilst Comini still has a slim advantage of seven points over Oriola heading into the final race of the season.
Apart from Mora, Yu and Lau, the two other non-finishers were PAS Macau Racing Team’s Henry Ho, who headed back to the pits, as his Honda Civic had electrical issues, along with Proteam Racing’s James Nash, as the Brit’s Ford Focus was suffering overheating issues.
Jordi Oriola made it four Seat Leóns in the top five, finishing fifth ahead of WestCoast Racing’s Gianni Morbidelli and Kevin Gleason. Andrea Belicchi would only be able to manage eighth, as Liqui Moly Team Engstler’s Lorenso Veglia and Craft-Bamboo Lukoil’s Sergey Afanasyev rounded out the top ten.
