WestCoast Racing’s Gianni Morbidelli remained on top of the times in second practice for the TCR International Series at Monza, ahead of Craft-Bamboo’s Pepe Oriola and Honda team-mate Kevin Gleason.
Morbidelli hit the top of the times around half-way through the 30-minute session, eventually posting a best lap which was three tenths slower than he had been in first practice.
The top SEAT driver was Oriola, who ended up 0.712 seconds adrift, ahead of American Gleason.
Craft-Bamboo Racing’s Sergey Afanasyev was fourth fastest, whilst the Campos Racing Opel Astra of Fernando Monje was fifth, improving significantly over first practice to end up 0.990 seconds slower than Morbidelli.
“It’s a very good result for us,” admitted Team Manager Monje. “The car felt good since the beginning, with good top speed, with minimal downforce, but we still had an issue with the rear, which was sliding a bit in the corners. We did some set-up changes and they proved effective.”
Jordi Gené was sixth quickest in his Craft-Bamboo SEAT, ahead of Liqui Moly Team Engstler’s Mikhail Grachev, Target Competition’s Stefano Comini, Zengő Motorsport newcomer Zsolt Szabó and the third WestCoast Honda of Igor Skuz.
The second Zengő Motorsport SEAT of Davide Roda did not take part in the session due to rolling his car in first practice.
Qualifying takes place at 15:00 CEST (14:00 BST) and will be streamed live online at www.tcr-series.com.
