Mercedes’ Paul di Resta topped the times in a rain-affected second practice for the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters at the Nürburgring, with the top time of 1:23.578 being posted in the first 25 minutes of the session.
The session had begun on a perfectly dry track following this morning’s earlier damp first practice, with the initial laptimes being around three tenths slower than the best qualifying lap from 2013.
However the heavens opened around halfway through the hour-long session, making it impossible for drivers to post any improvements.
Audi’s Timo Scheider was second fastest, just 0.009 seconds slower than Scot Di Resta. Indeed the top six cars were covered by less than a tenth of a second, with BMW’s Marco Wittmann in third followed by António Félix da Costa, early morning pace-setter Timo Glock and Adrien Tambay.
Nico Müller was seventh fastest in his Rosberg Audi, ahead of Daniel Juncadella in eighth who was the only other Mercedes driver inside the top ten.
Championship contenders Bruno Spengler and Mattias Ekström completed the top ten.
In total the top 21 cars were covered by less than a second, with only Vitaly Petrov (22nd) and Joey Hand (23rd) more than a second off the pace.
Qualifying takes place at 13:45 CEST (12:45 BST).
