BMW’s Marco Wittmann remained on top of the testing times on the second day of the final Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters test at the Hockenheimring, beating Audi’s Mike Rockenfeller to the top time.
German Wittman improved his time from Monday by almost a second to beat reigning champion Rockenfeller. The Audi driver admitted to being happier with his performance at the Baden-Württenberg circuit, ending the day as the top Audi driver for the first time in 2014.
“After Budapest, where I wasn’t actually so satisfied, things went much better here today,” said Rockenfeller. “We learnt a great deal, but we still have a lot of work ahead of us. Timo (Scheider) and I will try to use the final two test days before the season opener as good as possible.”
Third fastest was Monday’s slowest driver, with Mercedes’ Christian Vietoris improving his time by more than two seconds from the previous day.
As in the previous test in Hungary, BMW’s Timo Glock was racking up the kilometres and on Tuesday the former Formula One driver completed 156 laps – more than any other driver. He ended the day fifth fastest.
